Outside Of The Comfort Zone

I ran my first 5K this weekend in the Cleveland Oktoberfest 5K Bier Run and 1-Mile Walk at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds on Monday September 4th.  I get to cross that one off of my bucket list! I finished the run 23 out of 31 in my age bracket 40-44. I was happy to have even finished this run, being a new runner. I just started to run this summer to help stay in shape and to help relieve some stress.

I would have never thought I would do anything like running a 5k my life, it just was never my thing. After I crossed the finish line I remember feeling a sense of accomplishment in trying something new, something I never imagined I could ever do not being a runner and having asthma all my life. I heard that little voice in my head as I was running that day of my mom saying you can do anything you put your mind to Shannon, I am so proud of you.  I ran for my mom that day and to prove to myself that I could do something I never imagined I would do. Trying something new and stepping outside of your comfort zone sure teaches you something about yourself. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I made in saying yes to a new friend who asked me to run with him. I am looking forward to doing another one sometime soon.
